BOATING & CANOEING
The Upper Kennebec River Valley offers virtually unlimited opportunities for boating and canoeing enthusiasts. With thousands of acres of lakes and ponds of all sizes as well as many miles of moving water, the area caters virtually to all types of watercrafts, from large boats to canoes, from the serene undisturbed peace of a remote pond to the bustles of a large lake. We have it all.
CAMPING
If you enjoy the outdoor and camping we offer numerous opportunities to camp at both improved and unimproved, remote or not so remote sites located on hundreds of miles of roads that lead to lakes and ponds. Fire permits are required and information on permits can be obtained through the Chamber Office and most local businesses.
Abandoned farm roads and woods trails throughout the entire Kennebec Valley region offer easy access for exploring, bird watching, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling or just relaxing in peaceful soliture.
BIRD WATCHING
An unusual feature of our region is its variety of bird life. A recent survey showed 121 species. The Bald Eagle, who nests in this area is oftern seen fishing in the Kennebec River.
FISHING
Of equal interest is the fact that this section of the Upper Kennebec River is the only river in the United States where five species of cold water game fish may be found; Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Landlocked Salmon and Lake togue.
